Found an automation you like? Here's how to add it to your Home Assistant:

Copy the YAML - Click on the GitHub link for any automation and copy its YAML code
Open Home Assistant - Go to Settings → Automations & Scenes → Create Automation
Paste the code - Click the three-dot menu → Edit in YAML, then paste your code
Customize - Update entity names and settings to match your setup
Save - Save your automation and test it!

GPT prompt to write better titles & descriptions

Clear titles and descriptions make your automations more discoverable. Copy this prompt and your automation YAML to ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI assistant:

You are reviewing a Home Assistant automations.yaml file.

For each automation, rewrite:

1. alias (title)
• Max 10 words
• Clear, simple, no technical jargon
• Understandable by someone with no Home Assistant knowledge

2. description
• Max 4 short lines
• Plain, everyday language
• Explain what happens, when, and why, from a user’s perspective
• Avoid technical terms like trigger, entity, service, state, automation

Rules
